I do admit that I enjoy writing love scenes. I suspect I may be too impressed with my own writing abilities in that department, but others have told me I write those scenes well, so I'll take their word for it. However, I have to admit that I wrote Restless on a dare. Someone in my critique group was writing an erotic novella, which just happened to impress the dickens out of the rest of us. I won't mention any names, but this particular writer is now a rising star in the inspirational romance genre. Anyway, I thought – why not. So I wrote Restless. When I reread it, I had to wonder...too much? Restless is only 25,000 words with at least five major love scenes – one in an elevator, one on a porch, and one with the guy going solo. I did make a determined effort to include the necessary "build-up" with lots of emotion and conflict. And I even worked in an actual story, with a climax (a real one...not just...well, you know...) Not bad for 25,000 words, wouldn't you say.
This one is way over the top in the love scene department from anything I have written before, but I have had great reviews on it. I almost published it under a pseudonym but finally decided why not just go with my own name. I'm not too sure my children and grandchildren are all that impressed with my foray into the erotica market, but there are no external gizmos or trapezes involved....so, for sure, it could be way more graphic than it is.
After you read Restless, I would be interested to hear if you think I should continue on in this genre.
Just as a matter of interest, I have three books available with three levels of "heat":
Remember the Shagmeister has a lot of sexual tension but no graphic love scene.
Restless is...hot! Fire! Inferno! I will say no more.
Ready or Not lies directly in the middle of those two and definitely sizzles, but not habenaro-pepper-burn-you-up sizzle until you're a pile of ashes.
Which one do you like best? I would be very interested to hear.
